Awesome Evening

We used to frequently go to The Codfather often when they were based along Rivonia. I had been wanting to go to the new place for a while and just didn't get around to going there. We had friends over from the UK and they wanted to eat good seafood before going back. I tried to book numerous places in Joburg for New Years Eve but most restaurants were either closed or had a set menu. I called The Codfather and they were open so we made a reservation for 10 people. The new place is posh and trendy. The wine and food selection was awesome. You also have the option to pick your own seafood or choose from the menu. I decided to have the sole from the menu which was so delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly and was like butter on my mouth. For dessert I had the poached pears in white wine. It was good but the pear could have done with being poached for slightly longer. All in all an awesome evening with great company and lovely food.

Beautiful restaurant

Beautiful restaurant. I've been here for multiple group occasions, it's great for hosting a large number of people, either for a birthday, or just a girls night out.
The wine cellar is the best place to dine in the evenings it's so romantic, private and cosy and outside for an afternoon of high tea.

The portions are huge, definitely worth it. On the one occasion I had the ribs, it was to die for. Succulent, saucy, juicy and tender.

The other occasions it was mostly platters created by the host and the chef, which is a great touch as the restaurant caters to your groups likes and dislikes.

Overall: excellent services, good food, great wine and beautiful scenery

Outstanding Seafood!

On a three week trip to South Africa this was by far and away the best food that we ate, in fact we so enjoyed our first visit that we went back again 3 days later.

Starting with the restaurants sommelier picking us up from our hotel, through the wine service, food service and the food, and taking us back home again, everything was of the highest standard.

We met the chef, Michael Loskowski, originally from Poland, but now married to a Cape Town girl, and boy does he do a fantastic job.

The first time we had some Luderitz Oysters, a steamed linefish (delicious), Japanese Scallops (lovely) and a salad to start, followed by a wonderful seafood curry, and excellent Bouillabaisse, and an enormous seafood platter for two. This was all washed down with two wonderful wine recommendations, a Metis Sav Blanc and a very good 2008 Mont du Toit blend. All this for about £22 a head. Wonderful.

The second time around we were a little more extravagant and picked various shellfish and fish for a grill. More Oysters and then some fresh whitebait.

For the grill we had Kingclip, Mussel Cracker (which was a little overrated), Tiger Giant prawns, Crayfish Tails, Calamari and some linefish (Pangasius).

Similar wines as the first visit.

The service was attentive, without intruding, and really very good.

If you go to Jozi and like fish, do go and eat here.

A must-try!

It's the first time KevFabFood has been to the new Cod Father - the restaurant is very modern and has lots of natural light - the waiters are all very friendly and willing to help, food is fresh - delicious and beautifully platted with good-sized portions. I had the Salmon with pea Risotto and then the baked Alaska - only draw-back is the construction in the area and weird parking arrangements - however this is an awesome fish restaurant and a must-try!

Excellent restaurant with excellent food and service

From the time the owner picked us up at the hotel (we did not know this at the time) until he took us back, it was a priceless evening. We were treated so well. They have an excellent wine selection. They helped with suggestions with wine and food. Our waiter, Ali, was excellent. Everyone was. My husband had the sole. Best he's ever had. I had mussels and langoustines. Overall, it was just the perfect way to end our time in Johannesburg.
