The Outpost Lodge
We stayed at The Outpost Lodge for two days prior to our trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro. We were very pleased with the rooms and grounds at this place. Beautiful trees and plants made the grounds gorgeous as well as a lovely pool area with lounge chairs and tables which we utilized to gather and play games. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and retained an African feel.
The restaurant was lovely in setting and provided a wide variety of food choices, including Indian and Chinese cuisines. We found the prices to be very reasonable, especially for bottled water which was 2-4 times more expensive at other venues we visited. We had varying opinions on the quality of the food but with the wide variety of options, we were all able to find something we liked.
The lodge was very willing to hold our luggage while we spent a week on Mt. Kilimanjaro. When we checked our luggage in, it was taken into a locked back office room behind the counter. However, when we returned, we were taken to a large unlit locked shipment container where we found all our luggage, along with many other peoples, tossed inside haphazardly. It took awhile, searching around with the light on our cell phones, to retrieve our bags. There also did not appear to be a system in place to ensure that the bags being gathered where actually ours.
Overall, we were impressed with this location. When we returned from the mountain we actually stayed at an "upgraded" location as the Outpost Lodge was fully booked and we all agreed that we had enjoyed our time at The Outpost Lodge more. Definitely a recommended location for those traveling through Arusha.
